How do students apply? Applications will be posted online in the New Year and will be accepted through the end of April. See Applications tab under Admissions.
What determines a student's eligibility for acceptance to CHA? Student must be entering the 9th, 10th or 11th grade, turn in our complete application package, reside in RVA's East End, attend an in-person interview, and submit a writing sample.
What is the cost to attend CHA? Church Hill Academy asks each parent to contribute $100 per student to attend the school. Textbook and supplies are provided to Academy students through private contributions and donations.
What is your current student:teacher ratio? CHA is proud of our small classroom size. Our current student:teacher ratio is 5:1.
How many students currently attend CHA? 38
What kinds of college or career preparatory programming does CHA have? Students can participate in the College Mentoring Program, work in CHAT's Work Leadership Program, attend college day trips, meet one-on-one with our Volunteer College Coordinator or School Counselor for individualized assistance with post-high school planning, including SAT registration and help with the FAFSA.
Can students receive an Advanced Diploma? Yes, we currently have four students on track to receive their Advanced Diplomas in 2019.
Do students have to pass any SOL tests to graduate? No. The only standardized testing we require is the NWEA test in October and May to show growth in math, reading, and language use.
Do you offer athletic programs and clubs? Students can try out for the CHAT Phantoms basketball team. We also have a Pep Squad, a Student Government Association, and many student-led interest groups.
Does CHA provide transportation to school? Church Hill Academy offers transportation to most students who reside in the East End of the city of Richmond. In order to be eligible to receive transportation via a CHAT bus or van, families should be unable to provide transportation via their own vehicle.
Does CHA provide food for students? All of our students receive a wholesome breakfast and lunch daily free of charge. We are a member of the National School Lunch Program through the US Department of Agriculture.
Is there a school uniform? Yes, students wear a red or navy Church Hill Academy t-shirt or polo shirt everyday with black, navy blue, or khaki pants.
What is your cell phone policy? Students receive merit points for voluntarily turning in their cell phone in Homeroom every morning. We ask that students not use their cell phones at all during the school day.
Can students bring laptops or tablets to school? Students pay a refundable damage deposit of $50 and are issued personal Chromebooks for school use, after signing a Computer Use Agreement.
Does Church Hill Academy engage with students’ social media? We aim to keep relationships between staff and students professional, and students and families are invited to connect with teachers and staff via school email as opposed to on social media. Church Hill Academy will only become involved with our students’ social media interactions when what is written, insinuated, or pictured impacts the school or CHAT.
